Why blog?

Blogging may seem like a trend, but it's one that isn't going away. It offers numerous benefits to those who want to establish a presence online. This could be to market a company for which you are employed, a company you own, or even to establish yourself as an expert in a hobby which you love. I'm trying with not much success to maintain two hobby blogs (one of which is a hobby I'm losing interest in). But what I'm really committed to is that people know about Pen Porter;'s public relations and marketing services, so that is why I am also committed to weekly blogging.

Sometimes, though, you don't want to reinvent the wheel. I only recently graduated from University of California - Riverside Extension with a certificate in marketing. For me to have obtained that certificate, it was fairly necessary for me to study social media marketing.(It was an elective, but for a number of reasons I HAD to take the class. First of all, because I wanted to.) My social media instructor Kim "Kat" Shepherd, has just shared on her blog some of the benefits of blogging. So I'm not even going to take credit for this list, I am just going to post some of her reasons here. If you want more, go to http://www.theultimateprofessional.com/benefits-of-blogging/

Here are the reasons from her list I have personally found to be true. She states that blogging can help you:

  • Build Credibility
  • Control Your Data and Connect To Social Media
  • Establish Your Identity
  • Fuel Idea Generation and Innovation
  • Increase Your Visibility
  •  Launch Your Business
And that's if you're just getting started, and/or the blog is simply your creative writing outlet. If you're using it for marketing purposes, the blog also can:

  • Attract inbound links
  • Help create your brand
  • Engage your customers
  • Establish a means of communication with customers
  • Generate leads
  • Attract new customers
  • Improve SEO
  • Reach global markets
  • Sell products or services
  • Showcase company
I was an experienced, expert writer and public relations specialist before I studied marketing, and now Pen Porter is branching more into marketing as well. One of the services I offer is blogging. I hope, although I share information today from an expert blogger who showed me the ropes in marketing, you will want to learn more about my expertise by reading other entries of this regularly updated blog.
